An Act to authorize Free Grants of Land to Military Settlers and Members of the Colonial Defence Force in the Province of Hawke’s Bay.
Preamble.
Whereas it is expedient that provision should be made for the location of Military Settlers and Defence Corps in the Province of Hawke’s Bay
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows—
I Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Hawke’s Bay Military and Colonial Defence Corps Settlement Act 1865.”
II Superintendent with consent of Council to reserve blocks of land.
It shall be lawful for the Superintendent of the Province of Hawke’s Bay with the advice and consent of the Provincial Council of the said Province from time to time to define set apart and reserve for the purposes hereinafter mentioned out of the Waste Lands of the Crown in the said Province blocks of land of extent sufficient in each case to provide for the location of not less than forty men of the rank of privates with the commissioned and non-commissioned officers required for the number of men so to be located.
III Grants to be made to officers and men enrolled before 1st April 1865.
To each of the officers and men of the Colonial Defence Corps stationed in the said Province and to each of the officers and men of the Military Settlers in the said Province who were enrolled prior to the first day of April one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five there shall be granted out of the lands to be reserved as hereinbefore provided so many acres of land as are specified in the Schedule A. hereto opposite to the class or rank of the grantee or grantees.
IV Grants to be made to officers and men enrolled after the 1st April 1865.
There shall be granted to each of such of the officers and men of the Military Settlers in the said Province as have been enrolled since the first day of April one thousand eight hundred and sixty-five or who may be hereafter enrolled under any regulations made by the Governor in that behalf out of the land to be reserved as hereinbefore provided so many acres of land as are specified in the Schedule B. hereto opposite to the class or rank to which the grantee or grantees shall belong.
