An Act for amending an Act to establish Courts of Petty Sessions of the Peace of Civil and Criminal jurisdiction in the Colony of New Zealand.

Preamble

WHEREAS by Section VII. of “The Petty Sessions Act 1865” it is enacted that five Justices should form a quorum at the yearly meetings to be appointed by the Governor as therein is provided And whereas it is expedient that three Justices at such meetings should form a quorum

Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows:

I Short Title.

The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Petty Sessions Act Amendment Act 1866.”

II Three Justices to be a quorum at yearly meetings of Justices.

Three Justices shall form a quorum at the yearly meetings of Justices to be held under the provisions contained in the said seventh section of the said Act with the same powers and the same duties as are conferred on or vested in the quorum of five by the said Act and the said Act shall be construed and read as if the word “three” had been originally inserted in the said seventh section of the said Act in lieu of the word “five.”
