An Act to fix the Salaries of certain Legislative Officers.
Preamble.
WHEREAS it is expedient that the salaries of the chief officers of the Legislature of New Zealand should he permanently fixed by law
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled and by authority of the same as follows—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Legislative Officers Salaries Act 1867.”
2 Certain sums to be paid annually.
There shall be annually paid and applied out of the consolidated fund of this Colony to the respective persons holding the offices named in the Schedule to this Act the respective sums set opposite the names of such offices in the said Schedule.
3 Speaker and Chairman of Committees to hold office during dissolution.
For all purposes of this Act the persons who shall fill the offices respectively of Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of Committees of the House of Representatives at the time of the dissolution of any Parliament shall be deemed to be the Speaker and Chairman of Committees respectively until the first meeting of the next Parliament.
4 Salaries to include all allowances.
The sums mentioned in the said Schedule as the salaries of the Speakers and Chairman of Committees shall include all allowances of whatsoever kind except the necessary travelling expenses for attending meetings of the General Assembly.
5 Treasurer indemnified.
The Treasurer of New Zealand shall in his Accounts from time to time be allowed credit for any sum of money paid by him in pursuance of this Act and the receipt of the person to whom the same shall be paid shall be a full and valid discharge to the said Treasurer in passing his said Accounts for any such sum as shall be therein mentioned.
6 Commencement of Act.
This Act shall be deemed to have been in operation from the first day of July one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven.
Schedule Legislative Council.
The Speaker (£600) six hundred pounds.
Chairman of Committees (£300) three hundred pounds.
Clerk (£400) four hundred pounds.
House of Representatives.
The Speaker (£600) six hundred pounds.
Chairman of Committees (£400) four hundred pounds.
Clerk (£600) six hundred pounds.
Clerk Assistant (£400) four hundred pounds.
