The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Appropriation Act 1867.”

In addition to the sum of One hundred thousand pounds (£100,000) already applied to the service of the year ending on the thirtieth day of June one thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight by “The Imprest Supply Act 1867” there shall and may be issued and applied out of the Consolidated Fund of New Zealand and out of the moneys authorized to be raised by “The Treasury Bills Act 1866” towards making good the supply granted to Her Majesty for the service of the said year a further sum of Three hundred and six thousand and nine pounds five shillings and seven pence (£306,009 5s. 7d.).

Out of the Consolidated Fund applied by the said Act and by this Act there shall and may be appropriated in addition to all other sums of money now by law permanently appropriated any sum or sums of money not exceeding in the whole the amount of Four hundred and six thousand and nine pounds five shillings and seven pence (£406,009 5s. 7d.) towards or for the purposes hereinafter expressed that is to say—Any sum or sums of money not exceeding Four thousand and seventy - six pounds four shillings (£4076 4s.) to defray the salaries contingencies and expenses of Public Domains and Buildings in the manner hereinafter expressed that is to say—for Government Domains One thousand three hundred and twenty-six pounds four shillings (£1326 4s.) for Government Houses Seven hundred pounds (£700) for General Assembly Buildings One thousand pounds (£1000) for Colonial Museum Eight hundred and fifty pounds (£850) for Clerk of Public Works Two hundred pounds (£200)   And any sum or sums of money not exceeding Forty-three thousand five hundred and sixty-seven pounds ten shillings and four pence (£43,567 10s. 4d.) to defray the salaries contingencies and expenses of Public Departments in the manner hereinafter expressed that is to say—for Governor’s Establishment One thousand six hundred pounds (£1600) for Legislative Departments Eleven thousand six hundred and seventy-four pounds fourteen shillings (£11,674 14s.) for Executive Departments Ten thousand two hundred and thirty-six pounds seven shillings (£10,236 7s.) for Stamp Office Five hundred and eighty-four pounds sixteen shillings (£584 16s.) for Printing Department Six thousand one hundred and seventy-one pounds (£6171) for Geological Survey Three thousand four hundred pounds (£3400) and for Provincial Charges Paymasters’ Departments Three thousand six hundred and forty-one pounds thirteen shillings and four pence (£3641 13s. 4d.) for Stamp Office Two thousand four hundred and twenty-five pounds (£2425) and for Electoral Departments Three thousand eight hundred and thirty-four pounds (£3834)   And any sum or sums of money not exceeding Sixty-nine thousand one hundred and forty-eight pounds nineteen shillings and four pence (£69,148 19s. 4d.) to defray the salaries contingencies and expenses of Departments of Law and Justice in the manner hereinafter expressed that is to say—for General Charges Four thousand and sixty-six pounds sixteen shillings (£4066 16s.) for Provincial Charges Supreme Courts Eight thousand three hundred and five pounds ten shillings (£8305 10s.) for District Courts Four thousand six hundred and nine pounds (£4609) for Resident Magistrates Courts Thirty-two thousand two hundred and ninety-one pounds nine shillings and fourpence (£32,291 9s. 4d.) for Petty Sessions Courts One hundred pounds (£100) for Criminal Prosecutions Eight thousand (£8000) for Coroners Two thousand and fifty pounds (£2050) for Land and Deeds Registry Nine thousand seven hundred and twenty-six pounds four shillings (£9726 4s.)   And any sum or sums of money not exceeding One hundred and forty-eight thousand five hundred and seventy-nine pounds nine shillings (£148,579 9s.) to defray the salaries contingencies and expenses of Postal Departments in the manner hereinafter expressed that is to say—for General Charges General Post Office Two thousand nine hundred and five pounds (£2905) Conveyance of Mails by Sea Fifty-nine thousand four hundred and fifty-six pounds nineteen shillings and ten pence (£59,456 19s l0d.) Out of such portion of the Special Fund as may arise from the proceeds of the sale or other disposal of the confiscated lands a further sum not exceeding Thirty-four thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds (£34,750) shall and may be appropriated to defray the charges arising in respect of the said lands.

And whereas the actual expenditure of the General Government for the year ending on the thirtieth day of June one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven exceeded the sums authorized by law by the sum of One hundred and ninety-three thousand nine hundred and thirty-eight pounds (£193,938) And whereas the said expenditure in excess was reasonable and necessary Be it therefore enacted the several Colonial Treasurers and all persons whatsoever are hereby indemnified for the expenditure of the said sum of One hundred and ninety-three thousand nine hundred and thirty-eight pounds (£193,938) and the Colonial Treasurer shall receive credit in his accounts for the said sum accordingly.

The Treasurer of New Zealand shall issue and pay the said several sums hereby appropriated to such persons for the purposes hereinbefore mentioned upon such days and in such proportions as the Governor may by any warrant to be signed by him order and direct and the payment so to be made shall be charged upon and payable out of such revenue as aforesaid.

The said Treasurer shall in his accounts from time to time be allowed credit for any sum of money paid by him in pursuance of any warrant issued by virtue of this Act and the receipt of the person to whom the same shall be so paid shall be a full and valid discharge to the said Treasurer in passing his said accounts for any such sum as shall be therein mentioned.
