WHEREAS Hugo Max Bucholz of Auckland merchant a native of Gotha in Saxony presented to the Governor a memorial under “The Aliens Act 1866” praying that letters of naturalization might be granted to him and the said memorial was regular in form and duly verified and accompanied by a sufficient certificate as to the good repute of the said Hugo Max Bucholz And whereas the Governor thought fit to grant letters of naturalization in accordance with the prayer of the said memorial and directed the said Hugo Max Bucholz to take the oath of allegiance prescribed by the said Act before the Resident Magistrate at Auckland And whereas the said Hugo Max Bucholz did not take the said oath of allegiance before the person named by the Governor for that purpose but did before presenting his said memorial take an oath of allegiance before one of Her Majesty’s Justices of the Peace for the Colony And whereas the said Hugo Max Bucholz believing that he had complied with the conditions prescribed by the said Act temporarily left the Colony and is now absent therefrom so that he cannot now take the oath of allegiance in due form and it is expedient that he should be naturalized in manner hereinafter appearing
