An Act to provide for the Width of Gauge of the Railways within the Province of Canterbury.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled and by the authority of the same as follows—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Canterbury Gauge Act 1870.”
2 Width of gauge between Addington Station and the Town of Rangiora.
Notwithstanding anything in “The Railways Act 1870”
contained the Governor in Council may cause the railway between the Addington Station and the Town of Rangiora but no further to be constructed of a five-feet three-inches gauge.
3 The Governor in Council may lay down third rail at cost of Province of Canterbury.
Whenever it shall seem to the Governor in Council advisable to do so in order to connect the line of railway south of the Rakaia or north of Rangiora with a narrow gauge railway on either side he may cause a third line of rail to be laid along the whole of the lines between Rangiora and Addington and between Rakaia and Lyttelton and the cost of the same shall be a charge upon the revenues of the Province of Canterbury and shall be deducted out of any moneys coming to the said Province from the Colonial Treasury.
