An Act to authorize the Holders of Miners’ Rights issued in the Province of Nelson or the County of Westland to exercise the same within the Gold Fields proclaimed in either of the said divisions of the Colony.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Miners’ Rights Extension Act. 1872.”
2 Miner’s right issued in Nelson or Westland exercisable in either.
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in “The Gold Fields Act, 1866,”
or any other Act, the holder of any miner’s right issued under the said Act or any Act amending the same, or any regulations made under the said Acts, either in the Province of Nelson or the County of Westland, may, subject to the conditions hereinafter provided, during the continuance of such right, exercise have hold and enjoy under and in respect thereof, within the other of the said two divisions of the Colony in which the same shall not have been issued, all the rights powers and authorities which he might have exercised had held and enjoyed if such miner’s right had been issued within such last-mentioned division of the Colony: Provided however that, before the holder of any such miner’s right shall be entitled to exercise the same in either of the said two divisions of the Colony in which the same shall not have been issued, it shall be obligatory upon him to register the same with such officer in the division in which the same shall not have been issued, and in such manner as shall from time to time be prescribed by regulations to be made by the Governor.
3 Franchise exercisable after two months’ residence.
No person holding a miner’s right under the said Act or this Act shall be entitled to exercise his franchise in respect thereof in any district of the Colony, unless he shall have been resident continuously in such district during two months immediately preceding the day of nomination of candidates for such election.
