An Act to amend “The Gold Fields Act, 1866.”
Preamble.
WHEREAS it is desirable, for the promotion of permanent settlement upon the gold fields of the Province of Nelson, that the laws relating to agricultural leases should be amended:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Gold Fields Act 1866 Amendment Act, 1873.”
2 Holder of agricultural lease entitled to new lease and to Crown grant.
The proviso to section fifty-two of “The Gold Fields Act, 1866,”
is hereby repealed, so far as regards the Province of Nelson, and the following proviso substituted in lieu thereof:—Provided that when at the expiration of any such lease of land within the Province of Nelson the lessee shall not have purchased the land, and shall have duly fulfilled all conditions of such lease, he shall be entitled at his option to a new lease for a further term of seven years at the same rental; and at the expiration of such further term, such lessee shall be entitled to a Crown grant for the land so held by him without further payment for such land.
