An Act to amend “The Protection of Animals Act, 1873.”
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act shall be “The Protection of Animals Act Amendment Act, 1875,”
and it shall be read and construed with “The Protection of Animals Act, 1873,”
hereinafter referred to as “the said Act.”
2 When seals may be hunted.
No person shall hunt take or kill any seal except during the months of June, July, August, and September in each year, under a penalty not exceeding twenty pounds for each seal so hunted taken or killed.
3 Proviso to section seventeen of Act of 1873 repealed, other provision in lieu.
The proviso to the seventeenth section of the said Act shall be and the same is hereby repealed, and the following proviso is enacted in lieu thereof: Provided however that nothing herein contained shall prevent any person in bonâ fide occupation of any land not being waste lands of the Crown, or some one person appointed by him, from pursuing taking or killing game upon any lands of which such first-mentioned person shall be in bonâ fide occupation as aforesaid, within the periods allowed by this Act, or subject any such person to any penalty for so doing.
