The Short Title of this Act is “The Sites for Working-men’s Clubs Act, 1879.”

For the purpose of providing sites for working-men’s clubs throughout the colony, the Governor may from time to time, in the manner provided by the one hundred and forty-fourth and one hundred and forty-fifth sections of “The Land Act, 1877,” set apart any Crown lands as therein mentioned as sites for working-men’s clubs.

Such lands shall be so set apart only in cities, towns, or other places where working-men’s clubs are or shall be hereafter established, and shall be used and held as sites for the erection and maintenance of working-men’s clubs, and for no other purpose.

Upon compliance with the said one hundred and forty-fourth and one hundred and forty-fifth sections of “The Land Act, 1877,” the Governor, on behalf of Her Majesty, may make grants of any land so set apart, upon such terms as he may think proper, to any person or persons nominated or appointed by the committee or other governing authority of any working-men’s club, which shall have been established for a period of not less than two years, to receive such grant, and such person or persons shall be and act as a trustee or trustees of such land for the purposes of the club for which the same has been set apart.

No trustee to whom any such land shall be granted, nor any other person, shall hare any power to sell, mortgage, or charge any such land or any part thereof, or to make or grant any lease of the same, or permit or suffer it to be used for any other purpose than for the erection and maintenance of a working-men’s club: Provided that if any land granted as aforesaid shall cease to be used for six months for the purpose for which the same was granted, it shall thereupon ipso facto revert to the Crown, free from all trusts and provisions.
