An Act to amend “The Prisons Act, 1873.”
Preamble.
WHEREAS certain places were used as public gaols or prisons at the time of the coming into operation of “The Prisons Act, 1873,”
and doubts having arisen as to the legal constitution of such gaols or prisons, it is expedient to declare that all such gaols or prisons shall be deemed to be and to have been public gaols or prisons within the meaning of the said Act:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Prisons Act Amendment Act, 1879.”
2 Places used as public gaols at commencement of “The Prisons Act, 1873,”
to be deemed to be and to have been public prisons.
Every house, building, enclosure, and place which immediately before the commencement of “The Prisons Act, 1873,”
was used as or deemed to be a public gaol or prison, shall for all purposes whatsoever be and be deemed to be and to have been a duly constituted public gaol or prison.
