An Act to amend “The Railways Construction and Land Act, 1881.”
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Railways Construction and Land Act 1881 Amendment Act, 1882.”
2 Proviso to be added to section 5.
The following proviso shall be added to section five of “The Railways Construction and Land Act, 1881,”
and shall be read and construed as part of the said section:—
Provided such connection shall be deemed sufficient if the terminus of a railway to be constructed under this Act is connected directly by means of a navigable river, creek, or arm of the sea, or by means of a railway by whomsoever constructed with a railway constructed or authorized to be constructed by the Government.
3 Companies may contract for construction of railways mentioned in Schedule.
The Governor may, at any time prior to the first day of the session of the General Assembly now next ensuing, contract under the provisions of “The Railways Construction and Land Act, 1881,”
with companies formed for the construction of the railways mentioned in the Schedule to this Act.

Waikato—Thames Railway to Rotorua.
East and West Coast, Middle Island, by Waiau and Reefton.
