An Act to amend “The Companies Act, 1882.”
Preamble.
WHEREAS doubts have arisen as to whether section two of “The Companies Act, 1882”
(hereinafter called “the said Act”
), applies so as to prevent companies incorporated either by Royal Charter or by Act of the Imperial Parliament for the purpose of carrying on the business of banking in this colony from taking advantage of the provisions of Part VIII. of the said Act: And whereas it is expedient to remove such doubts:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Companies Act 1882 Amendment Act, 1883.”
2 Part VIII. of “The Companies Act, 1882,”
to apply to banking companies.
Notwithstanding anything contained in section two of the said Act, Part VIII. of the said Act shall be deemed to apply to banking companies carrying on business within the colony.
