An Act to give effect to certain Provisions of an Act of the Imperial Parliament cited as the Fugitive Offenders Act, 1881.
Preamble.
WHEREAS by the thirtieth section of an Act of the Imperial Parliament cited as the Fugitive Offenders Act, 1881 (herein called “the said Act”
), it is among other things enacted that the jurisdiction under Part One of the said Act shall be exercised in a British possession by such Court, Judge, or Magistrate as may be from time to time provided by an Act or Ordinance passed by the Legislature of that possession: And whereas it is expedient provision should be made for giving effect to the said Act in this colony:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Fugitive Offenders Jurisdiction Act, 1883.”
2 Resident Magistrate to exercise jurisdiction under Part I. of the Act of the Imperial Parliament cited as the Fugitive Offenders Act, 1881.
Every Resident Magistrate shall have and may exercise the jurisdiction conferred under Part One of the said Act to hear a case and commit a fugitive to prison to await his return in the manner prescribed by the said Act.
