An Act to amend the Acts relating to the Representation of the People of New Zealand in the House of Representatives.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title.

The Short Title of this Act is “The Representation Acts Amendment Act, 1887.”

2 House of Representatives to consist of seventy-four members, where of four to be Maoris.

On the expiration by effluxion of time or other sooner determination of the present General Assembly the number of members to be thereafter elected to the House of Representatives shall be seventy-four in all; and of such members seventy shall be elected under the provisions of “The Representation Act, 1887,” and the remaining four shall be elected under the provisions of “The Maori Representation Act, 1867,” as perpetuated by “The Maori Representation Acts Continuance Act, 1876.”

3 Commissioners to give effect to Representation Act and this Act.

For the purpose of giving effect to “The Representation Act, 1887,” the Representation Commission in office under that Act shall, when directed by the Governor, and within such time as he shall determine, do all such acts and things as may be necessary to carry out the provisions of sections three and four of such Act as altered by this Act.
