The Short Title of this Act is “The Police Offences Act 1884 Amendment Act, 1892.”

Section nine of “The Police Offences Act, 1884” (herein termed “the said Act”), shall henceforth be read as if the words “one month” were omitted therefrom and the words “three months” substituted in lieu thereof.

Whenever any offence against any of the provisions of subsection one of section seven of the said Act shall be committed, any constable may, upon his own view thereof, or upon complaint made to him by any other person who shall declare his or her name and place of abode to the said constable, take possession of any animal or animals the subject of such offence, and convey such animal or animals to some place of safety and there detain the same until the information or complaint in respect of such offence shall have been heard and determined, or for any shorter period. And in any such case where the person charged shall be convicted, the Resident Magistrate or the Justice or Justices before whom the conviction takes place shall, in addition to all other powers in him or them vested by virtue of the said Act, have power to order the offender to pay any reasonable sum for the defraying of the cost of keeping such animal or animals while the same shall have been so detained as aforesaid, or otherwise incurred by the constable in connection with such detention.
