Contents
An Act to amend “The Representation Act, 1887,”
by providing when Rolls may be formed for New Electoral Districts.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Representation Act Amendment Act, 1893.”
2 Report of the Commission to take effect on passing of this Act.
Notwithstanding anything contained in “The Representation Act, 1887,”
the report of the Commission made under the said Act fixing the names and boundaries of new electoral districts, and which was proclaimed in the Gazette of the twenty-sixth day of January, in the year one thousand eight hundred and ninety-two, shall come into effect on the passing of this Act for the purposes hereinafter mentioned.
3 New electoral rolls to be formed forthwith.
On the passing of this Act the Governor shall forthwith appoint a Registrar under “The Registration of Electors Act, 1879”
(herein referred to as “the said Act”
), for each new electoral district so proclaimed as aforesaid; and each such Registrar shall, within thirty days from the passing of this Act, form a new electoral roll for such district in the manner provided by the said Act, but in the form set forth in the Schedule to this Act.
Subject to the provisions of this Act, such rolls when formed may be added to as provided in “The Registration of Electors Act, 1879.”
The First Schedule of the said Act is hereby repealed, and the Schedule to this Act substituted in lieu thereof. But no electoral roll prepared under the provisions of the said Act and this Act shall be deemed to be informal or illegal by reason only that such roll has been prepared in the form set forth in the aforesaid First Schedule, and not in the form set forth in the Schedule to this Act.
All the provisions of “The Representation Act, 1887,”
or any Act amending the same, shall, so far as may be necessary to give effect to this Act, be read and construed herewith.
4 Vacancy before prorogation.
Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act, the electoral districts and the several electoral rolls in force in such districts as the same existed at the time of the passing of this Act shall continue in force for the purpose of conducting any election which may be required in consequence of a vacancy occurring in the House of Representatives before the prorogation of the present session of Parliament.
5 Act to remain in force till end of next session.
This Act shall only remain in force until the end of the next session of the General Assembly.
