An Act to amend “The Abattoirs and Slaughterhouses Act, 1894.”

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title.

The Short Title of this Act is “The Abattoirs and Slaughterhouses Act Amendment Act, 1895.”

2 Section 3 not to apply to proposed Dunedin Corporation abattoir.

Section three, subsection one, of “The Abattoirs and Slaughterhouses Act, 1894,” shall be deemed not to apply to the abattoir proposed to be erected by the Corporation of the City of Dunedin upon the land in the Schedule hereto described: Provided always that the local authority shall consent thereto.

3 Section 51 amended.

Section fifty-one of “The Abattoirs and Slaughterhouses Act 1894,” is hereby amended by striking out the words “large or small cattle,” in line three, and inserting the word “pigs” in lieu thereof.

4 Section 52 amended.

Section fifty-two of “The Abattoirs and Slaughterhouses Act 1894,” is hereby amended by the addition of the following words: “but the carcases of all cattle slaughtered in such establishment, if sole within the colony, shall be subject to all the provisions of this Act.”

5 Penalty for permitting drainage to foul stream.

(1.)

If the keeper of any abattoir or licensed slaughterhouse permits or suffers drainage therefrom to flow into any stream which runs through a borough be is liable to a penalty not exceeding five pounds.

Civil rights or remedies saved.

(2.)

Nothing in this section contained shall affect any civil right or remedy available to any person aggrieved.

Schedule

All that piece of land known and described as part of Sections 35, 36, 37, and 38, Block V., Lower Kaikorai District, now vested in the Corporation of the Mayor, Councillors, and Citizens of the City of Dunedin, and being the land comprised and described in certificate of title, Register-book, Vol. xli., folio 27, and in a deed of conveyance registered No. 72217.
