An Act to make Further Provision respecting the Qualification of Members of the House of Representatives.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Members of the House of Representatives Disqualification Act, 1897.”
2 Bankrupt not to be qualified as candidate, nor to sit as member.
No person who, being a bankrupt within the meaning of “The Bankruptcy Act, 1892,”
has not obtained an order of discharge under that Act shall be qualified to be nominated as a candidate for election, or to be elected, or to take his seat as a member of the House of Representatives, anything in “The Electoral Act, 1893,”
or any other Act to the contrary notwithstanding.
