An Act to amend the Law relating to Promissory Oaths.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Promissory Oaths Act, 1901.”
2 Justices need not repeat oaths on fresh appointment.
(1.)
Where any Justice of the Peace, whether appointed by Commission of the Peace or by virtue of his holding any office, has taken the oaths prescribed by law and is afterwards reappointed Justice of the Peace on the issue of the next succeeding Commission of the Peace, or is re-elected to such office at the next succeeding election, it shall not be necessary for him to again take such oaths on any such reappointment or re-election.
(2.)
This section applies to Justices reappointed or re-elected before or after the commencement of this Act.
3 Members of General Assembly to take fresh oaths on demise of the Crown.
At the first meeting of the General Assembly after any future demise of the Crown, the members of the General Assembly shall take fresh oaths of allegiance to the Sovereign for the time being, and section forty-six of the Constitution Act shall be read and apply accordingly:
Provided that nothing herein shall be construed to require the General Assembly to meet on account of the demise of the Crown.
