An Act to amend the Law relating to New Zealand Law Societies.
Preamble.
WHEREAS doubts have arisen as to the validity of the constitution of the New Zealand Law Society, and of the appointment of the President, Vice-President, and Council of the said society: And whereas doubts have also arisen as to the validity of the constitution of certain of the District Law Societies: And whereas it is expedient to remove such doubts:
Be it therefore enacted by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Law Societies Act, 1902.”
2 New Zealand Law Society validated.
(1.)
The New Zealand Law Society shall be deemed to be validly constituted, in accordance with “The New Zealand Law Society’s Act, 1869,”
and to consist of all barristers and solicitors for the time being members of any District Law Society.
(2.)
The persons holding office on the passing of this Act as President, Vice-President, and Council of the New Zealand Law Society shall be deemed to have been validly appointed to their respective offices.
3 District Law Societies validated.
The several societies exercising, on the passing of this Act, the functions of District Law Societies shall be deemed to be properly constituted District Law Societies under “The District Law Societies Act, 1878,”
and the respective Presidents, Vice-Presidents, and Councils of the said societies shall be deemed to have been validly appointed to their respective offices.
