An Act to amend “The Inspection of Machinery Act, 1902.”
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
The Short Title of this Act is “The Inspection of Machinery Act Amendment Act, 1903”
; and it shall form part of and be read together with “The Inspection of Machinery Act, 1902”
(hereinafter referred to as “the principal Act”
).
2 Service certificates.
Notwithstanding the repeal of “The Inspection of Machinery Act Amendment Act, 1900,”
and “The Inspection of Machinery Act, 1901,”
the Board may cause service certificates of the appropriate class to be granted, without examination, to any person of good repute who, on or before the first day of January, one thousand nine hundred and three, had applied for the same and produced a testimonial from his former employer or employers of his having been actually engaged and in charge of an engine, or of a boiler, whether on land or at sea, as mentioned in section forty-two of the principal Act, for a period of twelve months prior to the date of his application.
3 Certificate of service to rank with certificate of competency.
Subject to any award now in force under “The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1900,”
every certificate of service granted under the principal Act. or under any Act thereby repealed, or under this Act, shall for all purposes rank equally with a certificate of competency of a corresponding class.
4 Section 51 of principal Act amended.
Section fifty-one of the principal Act (imposing a penalty for acting as an engine-driver in certain cases without a certificate) is hereby amended by adding, after the words “which has no machinery attached thereto,”
the words “or of any winding-engine or winding machinery, or of an engine propelled or moved from place to place by its own motive power and machinery.”
