The Short Title of this Act is “The Midland Railway Petitions Settlement Act Amendment Act, 1903”; and it shall form part of and be read together with “The Midland Railway Petitions Settlement Act, 1902” (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Act”).

Notwithstanding anything in the principal Act, the Colonial Treasurer is hereby authorised to create and issue inscribed stock under “The New Zealand Consolidated Stock Act, 1877,” or debentures or other Government securities, as he thinks fit, at a rate of interest not exceeding four per centum, to such an amount as will realise sufficient (after payment of the costs and expenses incurred in connection with such creation and issue) to pay to the Receiver mentioned in the principal Act the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand pounds.
