An Act to amend the Native Townships Act, 1910.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Native Townships Amendment Act, 1919, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Native Townships Act, 1910 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Power of sale or lease of lands acquired by Crown in Native townships.
Any land acquired by the Crown in any Native township (whether before or after the passing of this Act) pursuant to the provisions in that behalf of section nineteen or section twenty of the principal Act may be disposed of by way of sale, lease, or otherwise in accordance with regulations made under section twenty-two of that Act, anything to the contrary in the Native Land Act, 1909, or its amendments notwithstanding.
3 Section 20 of principal Act (relating to purchase of land by the Crown pursuant to resolution of assembled owners) modified.
Section twenty of the principal Act is hereby amended by adding thereto the following words: “In determining whether or not any such resolution of assembled owners for the purchase of land by the Crown should be confirmed, a Maori Land Board shall regard as adequate any price offered by the Crown and accepted by the assembled owners which is not less than the value of the estate or interest of the Native owners as appearing in the valuation roll under the Valuation of Land Act, 1908, for the time being in force:
“Provided that such valuation shall not have been made for a longer period than one year before the meeting of the assembled owners.”
