An Act to make Provision with respect to the Payment of Jurors.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Payment of Jurors Act, 1919, and shall be “read together with and deemed part of the Juries Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Governor-General may prescribe rates of payment for jurors.
(1.)
Fees for attendance at sittings of the Supreme Court, or at inquests held before a Coroner, shall be paid to jurors at such rates as may from time to time be prescribed in that behalf by the Governor-General in Council.
(2.)
In addition to any fees to which a juror may be entitled as aforesaid, he shall be entitled to a refund of the actual expenses of locomotion reasonably incurred by him in travelling to and returning from any such sittings or inquest by rail, coach, or steamboat, and in respect of any other expenses of locomotion shall be entitled to receive an allowance calculated in accordance with such rate as may be prescribed in that behalf by the Governor-General in Council.
(3.)
The Governor-General may from time to time, by Order in Council, prescribe rates of fees and allowances to be payable to jurors in accordance with the foregoing provisions of this section.
(4.)
All moneys payable under this section may be paid out of the Consolidated Fund without further appropriation than this Act.
Repeals.
(5.)
This section is in substitution for sections one hundred and fifty-six and one hundred and sixty-one of the principal Act, and section twenty-two of the Coroners Act, 1908, and those sections are hereby accordingly repealed.
