An Act to amend the Nurses Registration Act, 1908.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title

This Act may be cited as the Nurses Registration Amendment Act, 1920, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Nurses Registration Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

2 Qualification of persons who may be registered as nurses

(1.)

Subsection two of section four of the principal Act is hereby repealed, and he following subsections substituted therefor:—

“(2.)

Every person who has attained the age of twenty-one years shall on payment of a fee of one pound be entitled to registration as a nurse who satisfies the Registrar—

“(a.)

That she has had not less than three years’ approved training as a nurse; and

“(b.)

That she has received an approved course of instruction in theoretical and practical nursing; and

“(c.)

That she has passed an examination for nurses under this Act.

“(2a.)

For the purposes of this section the expression—

“‘Approved training as a nurse’ means a prescribed course of training in one or more hospitals approved for the purpose by the Registrar:

“‘An approved course of instruction’ means a course of instruction provided at a hospital approved by the Registrar as a training-school for nurses.”

Repeals

(2.)

Subsection one of section four of the principal Act is hereby repealed.

(3.)

Section five of the principal Act is hereby repealed.

3 Nurses’ badges to be issued only to nurses trained in New Zealand.

Section six of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting the words “together with,” and substituting the words “and in the case of a nurse trained in New Zealand shall also receive.”
