This Act may be cited as the Births and Deaths Registration Amendment Act, 1920, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Births and Deaths Registration Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the principal Act, it shall be lawful for the Registrar-General, on receipt of payment of a fee of five shillings, to register the birth of any person who was born in New Zealand before the commencement of the period of six months immediately preceding the passing of this Act, and whose birth has not been registered as required by the principal Act:

Provided that the Registrar-General shall not register the birth of any person under this section except on production, within twelve months after the passing of this Act, of satisfactory evidence on oath and of such other proof as he deems necessary of the fact, time, and place of birth and of the particulars of the parents.

The particulars of the birth and of the nature of the evidence produced shall be entered by the Registrar-General in a separate register to be kept by him for that purpose.
