An Act to amend the Crimes Act, 1908.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title.

This Act may be cited as the Crimes Amendment Act, 1922, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Crimes Act, 1908 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

2 Amending provisions as to offences against girls.

(1.)

Section two hundred and eight of the principal Act is hereby amended by inserting, after the word “accused” in the proviso to subsection two, the following words: “was under the age of twenty-one years at the date of the commission of the offence, and.”

(2.)

Section two hundred and sixteen of the principal Act is hereby amended as follows:—

(a.)

By inserting, after the word “accused” in the proviso to subsection two, the following words: “was under the age of twenty-one years at the date of the commission of the offence, and”; and

(b.)

By omitting from subsection three the words “six months,” and substituting the words “nine months.”

3 Inciting to commit certain crimes.

(1.)

Section three hundred and forty-nine of the principal Act is hereby amended by adding the words “or who incites or attempts to incite any person to commit any such crime.”

(2.)

Section three hundred and fifty of the principal Act is hereby amended by adding the following subsection:—

“(2.)

Every one who incites or attempts to incite any person to commit any such crime is liable to the same penalty as if he had attempted to commit that crime.”

4 Extending power to grant search-warrant.

Section three hundred and sixty-five of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from subsection one the words “for which under this or any other Act the offender may be arrested without warrant” wherever those words occur in the subsection.
