An Act to amend the Waimakariri River Improvement Act, 1922.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title.

This Act may be cited as the Waimakariri River Improvement Amendment Act, 1927, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Waimakariri River Improvement Act, 1922 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

2 Provision for exempting in whole or in part from general or separate rates lands subject to special rates

(1)

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the principal Act or in any enactment deemed to be incorporated therewith, the Trust in making and levying or directing to be made and levied any general or separate rate may, if it deems it equitable so to do,—

(a)

Exempt from such rate any land in the district or in any subdivision thereof, as the case may be, on which is levied a special rate made to secure repayment of any special loan raised for the purpose of constructing river or drainage works; or

(b)

Vary such general or separate rate in its application to such land to such extent as the Trust thinks fit.

(2)

The powers conferred by this section are in addition to and not in substitution for any powers with respect to rating conferred on the Trust by the principal Act or any other Act.
