An Act to amend the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, 1926.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Amendment Act, 1929, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, 1926 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Special provisions as to administration of Picton Hospital in event of union of Picton and Wairau Hospital Districts.
(1)
The special provisions hereinafter set forth with reference to the Picton Hospital shall apply only if and when the Wairau Hospital District and the Picton Hospital District are at any time hereafter abolished pursuant to section ten of the principal Act, and a new hospital district, to be called the Marlborough Hospital District, is then constituted pursuant to that section, comprising the whole of the area included in the districts so abolished.
(2)
Subject to the provisions of the last preceding subsection, the following provisions shall apply with respect to the Picton Hospital, namely:—
(a)
The Marlborough Hospital Board shall keep open for the treatment as heretofore of in-patients and out-patients the existing hospital at Picton, and shall at all times efficiently maintain the same to the satisfaction of the Director-General.
(b)
There shall at all times be a local committee of management for the said hospital, consisting of nine members, of whom three shall be appointed by the Marlborough Hospital Board, two shall be appointed by the Minister to represent the inhabitants of the Sounds County, two shall be elected by the electors of the Borough of Picton, and two shall be elected by those electors of the County of Marlborough who are occupiers of rateable property within the area that was comprised in the Picton Road District immediately prior to the merger of that district in the said county.
(c)
The mode of election and the tenure of office of persons elected or appointed as aforesaid shall be determined by regulations made from time to time by the Governor-General in Council.
(d)
The cost of any such election shall be paid and borne by the local authority of the district by whose electors the election is made.
(e)
Subject to the provisions of this section, the provisions of section seventy-eight of the principal Act shall apply to the said committee of management.
Provisional repeal.
(3)
In the event of the abolition of the Wairau Hospital District and the Picton Hospital District, and the constitution in lieu thereof of the Marlborough Hospital District, in manner provided by section ten of the principal Act, section nine of that Act shall be deemed to be repealed on the date on which such abolition and constitution respectively take effect.
