An Act to amend the Masseurs Registration Act, 1920.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Masseurs Registration Amendment Act, 1935, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Masseurs Registration Act, 1920 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Specially qualified nurses may hold themselves out as competent to practise actinotherapy.
(1)
Nothing in section twelve of the principal Act shall be construed to make it an offence for any registered nurse to hold herself out as being engaged in the practice of actinotherapy, or as being qualified to practise actinotherapy, if she is the holder of a certificate under the hand of the Director-General of Health that she has received a course of instruction at the St. John Clinic and Institute of Physical Medicine or other course of instruction approved by him in the practice of actinotherapy.
(2)
Nothing in section fourteen of the principal Act shall apply with respect to the employment as a masseur in any public hospital or other public institution of any registered nurse who is the holder of a certificate given in accordance with the last preceding subsection, if her duties as a masseur are restricted to the practice of actinotherapy.
(3)
For the purposes of this section “actinotherapy”
means the use by external application to the human body of infra-red, visible, or ultra-violet rays for the purpose of curing or alleviating any abnormal condition of the body.
3 Amending provisions relating to the theoretical and practical training of masseurs.
Section six of the principal Act is hereby amended as follows:—
(a)
By inserting, in paragraph (c) after the words “a course of”
, the words “instruction and training, extending over a period of not less than twenty-one months”
;
(b)
By omitting from subparagraph (i) of the said paragraph (c) the words “Not less than six months’ instruction”
; and
(c)
By omitting from subparagraph (ii) of the same paragraph the words “Not less than six months’ training”
, and also all words after the words “regulations in that behalf”
.
