An Act to extend the Duration of the Present Parliament.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the Prolongation of Parliament Act, 1942.
2 Duration of present Parliament extended.
1937, No. 18
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in section two of the Electoral Amendment Act, 1937, the House of Representatives as existing at the passing of this Act shall, unless the General Assembly is sooner dissolved, continue until the expiration of one year from the termination of the present war:
Provided that at least once in every year after the year nineteen hundred and forty-two, the Prime Minister shall move a motion in the House of Representatives either approving the continuation of the House of Representatives or fixing an earlier date for its expiry, and if on any such motion an earlier date is fixed for its expiry the House of Representatives shall not continue beyond that date.
3 Repeal.

The Prolongation of Parliament Act, 1941, is hereby repealed.
