An Act to postpone the Filling of certain Vacancies in the House of Representatives until the next General Election.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—
1 Short Title.
This Act may be cited as the By-elections Postponement Act, 1943.
2 Postponement of by-elections.
(1)
Notwithstanding anything in section one hundred and three of the Electoral Act, 1927, no writ shall be issued for a by-election to supply any vacancy now existing in the House of Representatives or any other vacancy that may arise therein before the next general election, and no warrant shall be issued for any such writ.
(2)
The writ issued on the nineteenth day of May, nineteen hundred and forty-three, for the election of a member of Parliament for the Northern Maori Electoral District and all nominations received and notices issued in respect of that election are hereby revoked.
3 Duration of Act.
This Act shall continue in force until the thirtieth day of September, nineteen hundred and forty-three, and shall then expire.
