An Act to Amend the War Pensions and Allowances (Mercantile Marine) Act, 1940.
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title and commencement.

This Act may be cited as the War Pensions and Allowances (Mercantile Marine) Amendment Act, 1949, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the War Pensions and Allowances (Mercantile Marine) Act, 1940 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
(2)
This Act shall be deemed to have come into force on the first day of June, nineteen hundred and forty-nine.
2 Maximum rates of pensions and allowances.

(1)
The principal Act (as amended by the War Pensions and Allowances (Mercantile Marine) Amendment Act, 1946, and by section two of the War Pensions and Allowances (Mercantile Marine) Amendment Act, 1947) is hereby further amended by repealing the First, Second, and Third Schedules, and substituting therefor respectively the First, Second, and Third Schedules set out in the Schedule to this Act.

Subsection one of section two of the War Pensions and Allowances (Mercantile Marine) Amendment Act, 1946, and the Second and Third Schedules to that Act, and the War Pensions and Allowances (Mercantile Marine) Amendment Act, 1947, are hereby repealed.
3 Amending provisions as to adopted children.
Section two of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from subsection two the words “any child who has been legally adopted by a member at any time before the date of his death or disablement or the commencement of his detention, and”
, and also the words “adopted child or”
.
