An Act to amend the Minimum Wage Act 1945.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Short Title and commencement. 1.945, No. 44

(1)

This Act may be cited as the Minimum Wage Amendment Act 1951, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Minimum Wage Act 1945 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

This Act shall come into force on the first day of August, nineteen hundred and fifty-one.

2 Increasing minimum wages for workers. 1950, No. 16

(1)

Section two of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing subsections two and three (as substituted by the Minimum Wage Amendment Act 1950), and substituting the following subsections:—

“(2)

For male workers the minimum rates of wages shall be the following:—

“(a)

If paid by the hour or by piecework, three shillings and ninepence an hour or an amount equivalent thereto having regard to the rate of production of the worker:

“(b)

If paid by the day, one pound ten shillings a day:

“(c)

In all other cases, seven pounds five shillings a week.

“(3)

For female workers the minimum rates of wages shall be the following:—

“(a)

If paid by the hour or by piecework, two shillings and sixpence an hour or an amount equivalent thereto having regard to the rate of production of the worker:

“(b)

If paid by the day, one pound a day:

“(c)

In all other cases, four pounds sixteen shillings and fourpence a week.”

Repeal. 1950, No. 16

The Minimum Wage Amendment Act 1950 is hereby consequentially repealed.
