An Act to amend the Civil List Act 1950.

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1 Short Title. 1950, No. 99

This Act may be cited as the Civil List Amendment Act 1954, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Civil List Act 1950 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

2 Member of Parliament returned unopposed at a by-election to receive salary from date on which he is declared to be elected.

Section twenty-two of the principal Act is hereby amended by adding to subsection two the following proviso:

“Provided that, where a member is returned unopposed at a by-election that is not contested, his salary and allowance shall commence to be payable on the day on which the Returning Officer publicly declares him to be elected.”

This section shall be deemed to have come into force on the seventh day of July, nineteen hundred and fifty-four.
