(1) This order may be cited as the Infectious and Notifiable Diseases Order 1996.

(2) This order shall come into force on the 28th day after the date of its notification in the Gazette.

(1) Schedule 1 to the Health Act 1956 (as substituted by section 5 of the Health Amendment Act 1982 and amended by the Infectious Diseases Order 1983¹ and by the Infectious Diseases Order 1986²) is hereby amended by omitting from Section A of Part I the Items relating to—

• (a) Amoebiasis:

• (b) Anthrax:

• (c) Brucellosis:

• (d) Diptheria:

• (e) Dysentery (see amoebiasis and shigellosis):

• (f) Enteric fever—typhoid, paratyphoid:

• (g) Hepatitis B:

• (h) Hepatitis non A or B:

• (i) Leptospirosis:

• (j) Mengingococcal infection:

• (k) Plague—bubonic, pneumonic, or septicaemic:

• (l) Poliomyelitis:

• (m) Psittacosis:

• (r) Typhus:

• (s) Yellow fever.

(2) Schedule 1 to the Health Act 1956 (as so substituted and amended) is hereby further amended by inserting in Section A of Part 1, in their appropriate alphabetical order, the following items:

(1) Schedule 1 to the Health Act 1956 (as substituted by section 5 of the Health Amendment Act 1982 and amended by the Infectious Diseases Order 1983 and by the Infectious Diseases Order 1986) is hereby further amended by omitting from Section B of Part 1 the items relating to—

• (a) Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome:

• (c) Congenital rubella:

• (d) Encephalitis:

• (e) Lassa fever:

(4) Schedule 2 to the Health Act 1956 (as so substituted) is hereby further amended by inserting in Section B, in their appropriate alphabetical order, the following items:

The Infectious Diseases Order 1983 and the Infectious Diseases Order 1986 are hereby consequentially revoked.
