An Act to amend the Hospitals Act 1926
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Hospitals Amendment Act 1956, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Hospitals Act 1926 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Cost of elections in combined districts
Section seventeen of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from subsection five the words “in the same proportions in which they are first assessed for contribution to the Hospital Board after the date of the election”
, and substituting the words “in the same proportions as at the date of the election the populations of the districts of those local authorities bear to the total population of the combined district. For the purposes of this subsection the population of the district of any local authority at the date of the election shall be deemed to be the population of that district as appearing in the then latest statistics in relation thereto published by the Department of Statistics in accordance with the Statistics Act 1955”
