An Act to amend the New Zealand University Act 1908

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1 Short Title

This Act may be cited as the New Zealand University Amendment Act 1958, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the New Zealand University Act 1908.

2 Eligibility for membership of Senate

(1)

Section four of the New Zealand University Amendment Act 1926 is hereby amended by repealing subsection four, and substituting the following subsection:

“(4)

Except in the case of the Vice-Chancellor and of the academic heads of the constituent institutions and of the Principals of the agricultural colleges, no person in the employment of the University Senate, or of the Council of any constituent institution, or of the Board of Governors of any agricultural college, shall be eligible to be a member of the Senate, except by virtue of appointment under paragraph (e) of subsection two of this section:

“Provided that no person shall be ineligible under the provisions of this subsection to be a member of the Senate by reason of his employment by any of the bodies specified in this subsection if the amount paid to him in any financial year in respect of that employment does not exceed two hundred pounds.”

The following enactments are hereby consequentially repealed:

Section nine of the New Zealand University Amendment Act 1928:

Section three of the New Zealand University Amendment Act 1929:

(c)

Paragraph (b) of subsection two of section sixty-three of the Statutes Amendment Act 1946.

3 Annual report and statement of accounts

Subsection one of section twenty-two of the New Zealand University Amendment Act 1926 is hereby amended by omitting the words “receipts and payments and of”.
