An Act to amend the Occupational Therapy Act 1949
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title and commencement
(1)
This Act may be cited as the Occupational Therapy Amendment Act 1959, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Occupational Therapy Act 1949 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
(2)
This Act shall come into force on the first day of January, nineteen hundred and sixty.
2 Registrar of Occupational Therapists
Section three of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting the words “Director of the Division of Nursing under the Health Act 1920”
, and substituting the words “Inspector of Occupational Therapy”
.
3 Membership of Occupational Therapy Board
(1)
Section four of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing subsection two, and substituting the following subsection:
“(2)
The Board shall consist of—
“(a)
The Director-General of Health:
“(b)
The Registrar:
“(c)
A person, being the Medical Superintendent of a public institution under the Mental Health Act 1911:
“(d)
A person, being the Medical Superintendent of a hospital controlled by a Hospital Board in which occupational therapists are employed:
“(e)
A person, being a registered occupational therapist charged with the training of persons in occupational therapy at an approved training school under this Act and, where the training school is a public institution under the Mental Health Act 1911, being also an employee of the Public Service under the Public Service Act 1912:
“(f)
Two persons, being registered occupational therapists engaged in the practice of occupational therapy, of whom—
“(i)
One is employed in a public institution under the Mental Health Act 1911:
“(ii)
One is employed in a hospital controlled by a Hospital Board:
“(g)
Two other persons.”
(2)
Every appointed member of the Board holding office immediately before the date of the commencement of this Act shall go out of office on that date, and, if he is eligible for membership, may be reappointed.
(3)
Section four of the principal Act is hereby further amended by inserting in subsection three, after the words “Minister of Health”
, the words “made, in the case of an appointment under paragraph (f) of subsection two of this section, on the nomination of the New Zealand Registered Occupational Therapists Association Incorporated or such other association or society as is approved for that purpose by the Minister”
.
(4)
Section six of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from subsection five the words “or the Director of the Division of Mental Hygiene, the member of the Board so absent”
, and substituting the word “he”
.
4 Commencement of section 24 of principal Act
Section twenty-four of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing subsection two, and substituting the following subsection:
“(2)
This section shall come into force on the first day of June, nineteen hundred and sixty.”
