An Act to amend the Civil List Act 1950
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Civil List Amendment Act 1961, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Civil List Act 1950 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Salary and allowance of Governor-General
(1)
Section 3 of the principal Act (as amended by subsection (1) of section 2 of the Civil List Amendment Act 1957) is hereby further amended—
(a)
By omitting from paragraph (a) of subsection (1) the words “six thousand five hundred pounds”
, and substituting the words “seven thousand five hundred pounds”
:
(b)
By omitting from paragraph (b) of subsection (1) the words “five thousand pounds”
, and substituting the words “five thousand five hundred pounds”
.
(2)
Section 2 of the Civil List Amendment Act 1957 is hereby consequentially amended by repealing subsection (1).
(3)
This section shall be deemed to have come into force on the first day of April, nineteen hundred and sixty.
3 Continuation of salary of former member of Parliament
Section 22 of the principal Act (as amended by section 2 of the Civil List Amendment Act 1954) is hereby further amended by adding to subsection (2) the following additional proviso:
“Provided further that where any person who was a member immediately before the dissolution of any Parliament is an unsuccessful candidate at the next general election of members of Parliament his salary shall continue to be payable in respect of the period commencing on the day named in the writ for the taking of the poll at that general election and ending with the last day of the next succeeding month or, if he sooner dies, with the date of his death.”
4 Allowances of members
For the purposes of clause 16 of the Parliamentary Salaries and Allowances Order 1961 (which order was made pursuant to section 27 of the Civil List Act 1950), but for no other purpose, the persons who at the commencement of this Act were the last to vacate the offices of Chairman and unofficial members of the Representation Commission in accordance with subsection (3) of section 15 of the Electoral Act 1956 shall be deemed to continue in office until their successors come into office.
This Act is administered in the Treasury.
