An Act to amend the Dogs Registration Act 1955

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1 Short Title

This Act may be cited as the Dogs Registration Amendment Act 1965, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Dogs Registration Act 1955 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

2 Registration year

(1)

Section 2 of the principal Act is hereby amended by inserting, after the definition of the term “owner”, the following definition:

“‘Registration year’ means a period of twelve months commencing on the first day of April in any year:”.

The principal Act is hereby further amended—

(a)

By omitting from subsection (5) of section 7 the word “January”, and substituting the word “April”:

(b)

By omitting from section 9 the word “July”, and substituting the word “October”:

(c)

By omitting from section 9 the word “year”, and substituting the words “registration year”:

(d)

By omitting from paragraph (b) of section 16 the word “January”, and substituting the word “April”:

(e)

By omitting from the same paragraph the word “year” wherever it occurs, and substituting in each case the words “registration year”.

Every registration of a dog that is in force at the passing of this Act or is made after the passing of this Act and before the first day of January, nineteen hundred and sixty-six, shall continue in force until the first day of April, nineteen hundred and sixty-six.

(4)

Every combined registration and hydatid-control fee prescribed pursuant to section 9a of the principal Act (as inserted by section 2 of the Dogs Registration Amendment Act 1961) that, whether before or after the passing of this Act, has been paid in respect of the year ending with the thirty-first day of December, nineteen hundred and sixty-five, shall be deemed to have been paid in respect of the registration year ending with the thirty-first day of March, nineteen hundred and sixty-six.

3 Registration of working dogs

Section 8 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from subsection (3) the words “shall be required to”, and substituting the words “shall, if so required by the local authority”.
