An Act to amend the Factories Act 1946

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1 Short Title

This Act may be cited as the Factories Amendment Act 1966, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Factories Act 1946 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

2 Precautions with respect to explosive or inflammable material

The principal Act is hereby amended by inserting, after section 48, the following section:

“48a

“(1)

Where there is present in any factory dust of such a character and to such an extent as to be liable to give rise to an explosion or to explode on ignition, all practicable steps shall be taken to prevent such an explosion by suitable enclosure of the plant used in the process, and by removal or prevention of accumulation of any such dust, wherever situated in the factory, and by exclusion or effective enclosure of possible sources of ignition.

“(2)

Where there is present in any factory dust of such a character and to such an extent as to be liable to give rise to an explosion or to explode on ignition, all practicable steps shall be taken to restrict the spread and effects of such an explosion by the provision of suitable chokes, baffles, and vents, or other equally effective appliances or measures.”
