An Act to amend the Electric Linemen Act 1959
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Electric Linemen Amendment Act 1966, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Electric Linemen Act 1959 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Grant of certificates to persons previously employed as electric linemen
Section 15 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from subsection (2) the words “subsection one of”
.
3 Duration of certificate of competency
(1)
Section 17 of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing the proviso to subsection (1).
(2)
Section 17 of the principal Act is hereby further amended by repealing subsection (2), and substituting the following subsection:
“(2)
Where for a period of five years the holder of a certificate has not attended the prescribed refresher courses referred to in paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section 19 of this Act, his certificate shall become invalid immediately on the expiry of that five-year period:
“Provided that, at any time after the date on which his certificate so became invalid, he may apply to the Committee for the grant of a new certificate and, subject to paragraph (d) of section 14 of this Act, the application may, at the absolute discretion of the Committee, be granted if the Committee is satisfied that the applicant has attended the prescribed refresher courses within the prescribed periods referred to in the said paragraph (b), and is otherwise sufficiently qualified to perform work on overhead lines.”

Section 17 of the principal Act is hereby further amended by omitting from subsection (3) the words “subsection one of this section”
, and substituting the words “paragraph (b) of subsection (1) of section 19 of this Act”
.

Any certificate of competency which has, within the five years immediately preceding the passing of this Act, become invalid under the proviso to subsection (1) of section 17 of the principal Act shall, as soon as it is endorsed in accordance with subsection (3) of the said section 17 (as amended by subsection (3) of this section), thereafter be valid.
4 Restriction on doing work on overhead line
Section 19 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from paragraph (b) of subsection (1) the words “and not deemed to be invalid under this Act”
, and substituting the words “and has, in accordance with regulations for the time being in force under this Act, attended and completed, within the prescribed periods, the prescribed refresher courses in safety precautions and resuscitation, conducted by such authority as may be authorised by those regulations, and his certificate is endorsed to that effect”
.
This Act is administered in the New Zealand Electricity Department.
