An Act to amend the Magistrates’ Courts Act 1947
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Magistrates’ Courts Amendment Act 1967, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Magistrates’ Courts Act 1947 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Appointment of Magistrates
(1)
Section 5 of the principal Act (as amended by section 2 of the Magistrates’ Courts Amendment Act 1959) is hereby further amended by omitting from subsection (2) the word “forty”
, and substituting the word “forty-five”
.
(2)
The Magistrates’ Courts Amendment Act 1959 is hereby consequentially repealed.
3 Salaries of Magistrates
(1)
Section 6 of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing subsection (1) (as substituted by section 2(1) of the Magistrates’ Courts Amendment Act 1966), and substituting the following subsection:
“(1)
There shall be paid to the Magistrates salaries at the following rates:
“(a)
During the year ending with the thirty-first day of March, nineteen hundred and sixty-eight, at the rate of seven thousand seven hundred and forty dollars a year:
“(b)
On and after the first day of April, nineteen hundred and sixty-eight, at the rate of eight thousand two hundred dollars a year.”
(2)
Section 2 of the Magistrates’ Courts Amendment Act 1966 is hereby consequentially repealed.
4 Warrant of distress
Section 85 of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing paragraph (a), and substituting the following paragraph:
“(a)
Any of the goods and chattels of that person, except his necessary tools of trade to a value not exceeding one hundred dollars and his necessary household furniture and effects, including the wearing apparel of himself and his family to a value not exceeding three hundred dollars; and”.
