An Act to amend the Dogs Registration Act 1955
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Dogs Registration Amendment Act 1968, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Dogs Registration Act 1955 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Notice of change of ownership or of death or loss of dog
Section 11 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from subsection (1) the words “the new owner shall within fourteen days notify the Registrar in writing of the change of ownership”
, and substituting the words “the previous owner and the new owner shall each within fourteen days notify the Registrar in writing of the change of ownership and of the residential address of the new owner”
.
3 Transfer of dog from one district to another
The principal Act is hereby further amended by inserting, after section 11, the following section:
“11a
“(1)
Where any dog registered under this Act is transferred to and is to be kept in the district of any local authority other than the district in which it is registered, the owner shall within fourteen days give notice in writing of the transfer to the Registrar for the registration office in which the dog is registered and also to the Registrar for the district to which the dog is transferred, setting out the address in that district at which the dog is to be kept. Where there are two or more registration offices in the district to which the dog is transferred, the notice shall be given to the Registrar for the registration office which is nearest to the place where the dog is to be kept.
“(2)
Every person who fails to comply with the provisions of this section commits an offence, and is liable to a fine not exceeding ten dollars.”
