An Act to amend the Juries Act 1908
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Juries Amendment Act 1968, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Juries Act 1908 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Exemption from jury service
(1)
Section 6 of the principal Act (as substituted by section 2(1) of the Juries Amendment Act 1951 and as amended by section 4 of the Juries Amendment Act 1963) is hereby amended by repealing paragraph (q) of subsection (1), and substituting the following paragraphs:
“(q)
A member of a Board of Review established under the Inland Revenue Department Amendment Act 1960:
“(r)
An employee of the Public Service who is employed in the Police Department:
“(s)
A person holding office under the Civil Defence Act 1962 or the State Services Act 1962 as the Director of Civil Defence, the Deputy-Director of Civil Defence, a Regional Commissioner of Civil Defence, the Deputy of a Regional Commissioner of Civil Defence, or an Assistant Regional Commissioner of Civil Defence:
“(t)
A person employed full time as a driver of ambulances (other than animal ambulances):
“(u)
Without prejudice to the foregoing provisions of this section, a person of such class or description as the Governor-General may from time to time by Order in Council exempt from serving on any jury.”
(2)
The Jury Service Exemption Order 1965 and the Jury Service Exemption Order 1966 are hereby revoked.
This Act is administered in the Department of Justice.
