An Act to amend the Shops and Offices Act 1955
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Shops and Offices Amendment Act 1971, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Shops and Offices Act 1955 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Hours of employment of shop assistants
Section 14 of the principal Act is hereby amended by inserting, after subsection (2), the following subsection:
“(2a)
Notwithstanding anything in subsection (1) of this section, the interval specified in paragraph (c) of that subsection for a meal may be reduced with the agreement of the assistant concerned to such lesser interval, being in any event not less than 30 minutes, as may be provided in—
“(a)
Any award made or industrial agreement filed under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act 1954; or
“(b)
Any agreement made under the Labour Disputes Investigation Act 1913.”
This Act is administered in the Department of Labour.
