An Act to amend the Wildlife Act 1953
BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1 Short Title
This Act may be cited as the Wildlife Amendment Act 1971, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Wildlife Act 1953 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).
2 Possession of game in open season
Section 16 of the principal Act is hereby amended by repealing the second proviso to subsection (2) (as substituted by section 5(2) of the Wildlife Amendment Act 1959).
3 Forfeitures
Section 70 of the principal Act is hereby amended by adding the following subsection:
“(4)
Notwithstanding anything in the Public Revenues Act 1953, the power conferred on the Secretary by subsection (3) of this section to direct the disposal of any property forfeited to the Crown under that subsection shall, in any case where the prosecution was commenced on the information of an officer of an acclimatisation society other than a department of State, include power to dispose of the property to that society, without consideration, for the purposes of sale; and the property shall be sold by the society and the proceeds of sale shall be paid into its funds and applied for the purposes of the society.”
