An Act to amend the Civil Defence Act 1962

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1 Short Title

This Act may be cited as the Civil Defence Amendment Act 1971, and shall be read together with and deemed part of the Civil Defence Act 1962 (hereinafter referred to as the principal Act).

2 National Civil Defence Committee

(1)

Section 10 of the principal Act is hereby amended by omitting from paragraph (a) of subsection (2) the word “Director”, and substituting the word “Secretary”.

(2)

The said section 10 is hereby further amended by inserting in subsection (2), after paragraph (a), the following paragraph:

“(aa)

The Director:”.

(3)

The said section 10 is hereby further amended by repealing subsection (4) (as substituted by section 7(2) of the Civil Defence Amendment Act 1965).

(4)

The said section 10 is hereby further amended by omitting from subsection (5) the word “other” where it first occurs.

(5)

Section 7 of the Civil Defence Amendment Act 1965 is hereby consequentially amended by repealing subsection (2).

3 Powers of Regional Commissioners to be subject to general direction of Director

Section 17 of the principal Act is hereby amended—

(a)

By inserting in subsection (1), after the words “Regional Commissioner shall”, the words “, subject to the general direction of the Director,”:

(b)

By inserting in subsection (2), after the words “Regional Commissioner may”, the words “, subject to the general direction of the Director,”:

(c)

By inserting in subsection (3), after the words “Regional Commissioner shall”, the words “, subject to the general direction of the Director,”.
